Bob Uhl Passed Away on Thursday Morning.
Bob, who played in some 25 Legends tournaments passed away on Thursday morning from colon cancer. Dominant on the mound, a force at the plate and a gentleman both on and off the field. Bob will be missed by all that knew him. Our prayers go out to his wife, Carol, his children and the rest of his family.
Thom Lach

It has been said "Our friends are the family we choose." And to many of us, Bob was a favorite uncle.

Here are a few of the emails that were being sent by his teammates. For those of you wishing to attend, send flowers, post condolences, etc., visitation for Bobby will be held at the Adams Family Funeral Home, located at 404 Decatur Street, Cumberland, MD, on Sunday, August 22nd from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. and from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

A funeral service to celebrate his life will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday, August 23rd at 1:00 p.m., with Reverend Joe Alkire officiating.

It is with deep sadness that I inform you that Bobby Uhl, a great man, friend and teammate, passed away peacefully this afternoon, surrounded by his loving family. Bob fought a courageous battle, and true to form, led by his example to live one's life with honor and dignity, no matter what the challenge. Please keep Bob and his family in your prayers today.
Gary Dover

To echo what so many of you have said tonight, we have lost a great team mate, but most importantly a great guy. I had the pleasure of playing with Bob a few times in Fort Myers and in Cooperstown and he was a true gentleman. He gave it his all on the field and I remember him always having a smile on his face and a joy in playing the game. Safe to say we are all better for having known Bob and having played with him. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.
Chris Pratt

With very few exceptions, we make many of our best friends with those that we share this game with... especially as we all continue to participate long beyond when most have since hung up their spikes. It brings together those with this common passion of which I know we all shared with our friend Bobby Uhl.

Bobby had that unique quality - always a great friend, but just as much, a fierce competitor whenever between the lines! On those ocasions when I was fortunate enough to share a dugout with him, he would inevitably have me shaking my head up and down after breaking a bat or sitting someone down with that sneaky fast and nasty cut fastball he would break in on the fist of a right-handed batter... but, also more times than I care to admit, I was left shaking my head side-to-side as I walked back to the opposing dugout after being a victim myself. I pray when we are together again someday, I'm in his dugout!
Jeff Marshall

The frist time I saw Bobby in Cleveland many years ago for a little friendly tournament, I said to myself this old man should not be to hard to hit off of. Well he proved to be a great pitcher, great hitter and very good fielder. The best part was he bacame a great person to know and to be a friend of. I was lucky to be a team mate of his several times, a great team player. He never said an unkind word about anyone. His wife was one of his best suporters and also a great person to know. He will be surely missed and not forgotten.
Mike Rusaw

I WILL NEVER FORGET THE FRIENDLINESS AND KINDNESS BOBBY EXTENDED TO ME AS A NEW TEAMMATE. I ADMIRED HIM GREATLY AND GLAD I DID NOT HAVE TO FACE HIM WHEN HE WAS ON THE MOUND. HE WAS A COMPETITOR THAT DID THE RIGHT THINGS THE RIGHT WAY AT THE RIGHT TIME!
HE BATTLED HIS ILLNESS LIKE HE PLAYED…COURAGEOUSLY. MAY ALL THE GREAT MEMORIES BE A SOURCE OF COMFORT.
Jimmy Ciennik III

Truly a sad day for the Uhl family and for our baseball community. I had the pleasure to speak with Bob last Sept. at Doubleday in the dugout
and even then he was still upbeat and was enjoying the game. Even though he wasn't playing you could tell that his passion for the sport still burned
inside his soul. He will be missed by many a teammate. I never had the pleasure to play on the same roster but remember a true competitor when I faced Bob.

Rest in peace Bob.
Brad Hodgson

This will be our 11th year coming up to this wonderful Legends tournament. My boys, my wife, my dad, my sister and other relatives so very much look forward to this event each and every year. In truth, it is the highlight of our year. Without any exaggeration whatsoever, Bobby Uhl as well as Mrs. Carol Uhl are a microcosm of what this tournament is about. They exude kindness, friendship, love of the game, and of course Bobby was as competitive as anyone I have met in my years coming up. Bobby's love of the game, sportsmanship, knowledge of the game and acknowledgement of other players accomplishments, was what this man was all about. We will miss a great player, a great sportsman, but most of all, a great man. Heaven just got a terrific pitcher, hitter and 3rd Baseman. Our love and heartfelt sympathy to his wonderful wife, Carol.
Sincerely and with love
Dan Cogliano, Elle and Boys

I'd like to add a quick Bobby Uhl story: Bobby and I were teammates at a Legends camp in Brooklyn a few years ago (which was good because he, like so many other guys who batted against him, owned me). We were the visiting team and were losing by a run going into the top of the 7th inning. With two outs and nobody on base, Bobby hammered a double which started a 2-run rally and of course forced the other team to bat in the bottom of the 7th. Our manager brought in our ace closer to secure the win.....Bobby Uhl, game MVP. 1-2-3 and it was over. All of my other memories of playing on the same field as Bobby are rather unpleasant since we were rarely on the same team. Like I said...he owned me, but he was a guy who would do whatever it took to beat you and then invite you to have a cold one after the game was over.

We were all very lucky to have had Bobby as part of our baseball family, just as we were very lucky to have had Ray Lammie, Roy Yocum, Darryl Bartow, George Goodall, Bob Wagner and others who I am not intentionally leaving off the list but treasure their friendship and love of the game just the same.

My very best to Bobby and to all great teammates who have gone before us but will never be forgotten.
Greg Wagner
